Here at Old Colonel Cars, The Classic and Performance Car Agency, we have this superb, modified BMW 02 Series.
This is a well known car in BMW ’02’ circles. This 1976 02 was a ground up restoration, around 25 years ago. We have 2 folders of history with this lovely car, but in summary the story of this car started with the 1502 shell. A racing team acquired this shell as they had a project to build an historic racing car. This rolling shell was the best available, in fact they decided it was too good to turn into a race car so it was purchased to create the ultimate road car.
The original 1502 shell was strengthened and protected, in the same way BMW strengthened their period race cars. Then a 2.0 tii engine was sourced and rebuilt, race cam, twin 48 Webers, 5 speed dog leg gearbox, LSD, Upgraded brakes and suspension etc. A full retrim, Recaro seats, carpets etc, very rare alloys, the list goes on and on. Lastly the owner wanted a sunroof, so a full size bespoke unit was created for this car, fully electric tilt and slid. The installation of this is so impressive, you would think it was a factory sunroof ….
This car then spent 20+years attending and wining many BMW events, concours shows etc. Lots of magazine features etc.
Recently, the car has been in Ireland (still on ZV plates), but will obviously put back on UK plates if staying in the UK.
The paintwork is in excellent condition as you can hopefully see. Look at the pictures underneath, its just as good and just as solid.
This car is such fun to drive, glorious sounds from the Weber carbs, the ideal weekend blast car ….
