Introduction

Here we have a outstanding example of the fabulous Alpina B10 4.6 V8. This June 1997 car is No 065, finished in Alpina Blue with Black extended leather interior and has covered 106,000 Miles. I have sold this car twice in the past, so know it very well. I first sold it with 60,000 Miles, then at 95,000 Miles. I have had the pleasure of selling lots of Alpina B10’s, I can honestly say this example drives as good as they come. The engine in this car has always felt its got all its specified power, really seems to perform extra well. Its the same for the gearbox, really does change smoothly and very quickly. This example benefits from a excellent, fully documented service history. Its always been owned by people that can afford to maintain these cars correctly and it shows in the way it performs.

The last owner for example, spent £1200 on its last service, at a very well respected garage in Kensington, London. The same garage upgraded the stereo to the latest Pioneer unit, with all the benefits you would expect in an up to date system (Sat Nav / Bluetooth Phone / Apps etc). This has been installed perfectly, Very high quality system (£2640), the original unit comes with the car also.

If you are not familiar with this model, this was Alpina’s answer to the M5. This was not designed to be a direct competitor, as it was more designed for a super fast saloon rather than the more hard core M5. These cars left the factory as BMW 4.4 V8’s. They were then taken to the Alpina factory. The engine was modified by increasing the displacement to 4619 cc, new crankshaft, re profiled camshafts, lighter higher compression Mahle pistons and a re-programmed engine management, along with re profiled and ported cylinder heads. This along with suspension / wheels / exhaust / gearbox upgrades resulted in a car with 340 BHP and amazing amounts of torque. Alpina claim 172 MPH if the mood takes you with a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds, but road tests indicate these figurures might be on the conservative side.

These performance figures are impressive, but the main achievement in my eyes is the way they made all these improvements whilst still leaving a perfectly usable daily car yet had stunning performance when needed. Other than a slightly deeper exhaust note on tickover, it’s hard to tell this Alpina from a normal BMW V8. But explore the performance and everything comes together and makes sense. Its staggering, the bespoke Alpina exhaust suddenly makes all the right noises, pops and bangs on the overrun, the instant performance from this large V8 is very addictive, the Switchtronic gearbox with paddle buttons on the steering wheel to change gear works extremely well, I think Alpina got the whole package just right !

Specification

This Alpina B10 has a lovely specification. On top of the usual E39 spec we have Extended leather, Electric seats, Electric sunroof, Heated seats, Comfort seats (really are the best seats, very rare, very expensive, very supportive), Sat Nav, Bluetooth Phone, Tracker etc.

Bodywork / Interior / Wheels etc

The bodywork and paintwork are in excellent condition throughout. Finished in Sapphire Blue metallic (Alpina Blue), there is no rust, just a lovely deep shine.

Inside the superb condition continues, the Black fully extended leather interior is in excellent condition, the deep pile carpets protected by two sets of mats (one with Alpina logos). There are some lovely Alpina touches, including the Alpina coloured stitching on the steering wheel, Alpina plaque etc.

The Alpina 18inch alloys are all in excellent condition, no curbing, all fitted with a lovely set of Goodyear F1 tyres.

Underneath this B10 is just as good and just as original, sills, floor pan all in excellent original condition.

Engine / Gearbox

The 4.6 V8 runs and sounds perfectly. Its been properly service and it shows. Regular coolant changes are seen in the history and the radiator was replaced at 95,000 Miles.

The Gearbox offers normal automatic mode or you can change gear with the steering wheel buttons. Its recently had the gearbox oil changed and the oil cooler for the gearbox has been replaced.

History

This example benefits from a full documented service history. We have all the original manuals, a fully stamped original service book, a folder full of all old MOT’s and service receipts, HPI clear certificate, VOSA mot history.

Please see a full breakdown of service visits below.

Summary

This Alpina B10 really is an outstanding example. If you are looking for the best of both worlds, stunning performance with a luxury interior, this car must be seen.

The B10 is priced very well, especially with the recent work. This will prove to be a very enjoyable and great modern classic to enjoy going forward, it should slowly appreciate in value now.

It will come with a YEARS MOT on sale.
