Here at Old Colonel Cars, the Classic and Performance Car Agency, we are delighted to have an immaculate example of the fabulous Alpina B10 4.6 V8.
This October 1997 car is No 207, finished in Artic Silver with a Black extended leather interior and has covered 101,000 Miles. This example benefits from an excellent, fully documented service history. Its always been owned by people that can afford to maintain these cars correctly and it shows in the way it performs.
The bodywork and paintwork are in excellent condition throughout, there is no rust, just a lovely deep all over shine. Look closer, no dings, no dents, perfect stance, this car looks fantastic.
Inside the superb condition continues, the Black fully extended leather interior is in excellent condition. There are some lovely Alpina touches, including the Alpina coloured stitching on the steering wheel, Alpina plaque etc.
The Alpina 18inch alloys are all in excellent condition, no curbing, all fitted with a lovely set of Michelin tyres.
Underneath this B10 is just as good and just as original, sills, floor pan all in excellent original condition.
The 4.6 V8 runs and sounds perfectly. Its been properly serviced and it shows.
The Gearbox offers normal automatic mode or you can change gear with the steering wheel buttons.
If you are not familiar with this model, this was Alpina’s answer to the M5. This was not designed to be a direct competitor, as it was more designed for a super fast saloon rather than the more hard core M5. These cars left the factory as BMW 4.4 V8’s. They were then taken to the Alpina factory. The engine was modified by increasing the displacement to 4619 cc, new crankshaft, re profiled camshafts, lighter higher compression Mahle pistons and a re-programmed engine management, along with re profiled and ported cylinder heads. This along with suspension / wheels / exhaust / gearbox upgrades resulted in a car with 340 BHP and amazing amounts of torque. Alpina claim ‘at least’ 172 MPH if the mood takes you with a 0-60 time of 5. 9 seconds, but road tests indicate these figures might be on the conservative side.
These performance figures are impressive, but the main achievement in my eyes is the way they made all these improvements whilst still leaving a perfectly usable daily car yet had stunning performance when needed. Other than a slightly deeper exhaust note on tick over, it’s hard to tell this Alpina from a normal BMW V8. But explore the performance and everything comes together and makes sense. Its staggering, the bespoke Alpina exhaust suddenly makes all the right noises, pops and bangs on the overrun, the instant performance from this large V8 is very addictive, the Switchtronic gearbox with paddle buttons on the steering wheel to change gear works extremely well, I think Alpina got the whole package just right !
This example benefits from a fully documented service history. We have all the original manuals, a fully stamped original service book, a folder full of all old MOT’s and service receipts, HPI clear certificate, VOSA mot history, even the original Sales invoice from Vines BMW, where in 1997 this car cost £72,419 (Over £135,000 in todays money)
This Alpina B10 really is an outstanding example. If you are looking for the best of both worlds, stunning performance with a luxury interior, this car must be seen.
