Introduction

Here we have a superb example one of the fastest appreciating classics, the Jaguar XJ-S. This 1985 example benefits from the 3.6 AJ6 engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. The XJ-SC identifies this as one of Jaguars first cabriolet models. Featuring a targa style convertible roof, this is a fantastic, versatile classic. As with all the Jaguar convertibles, rear seats are removed to make way for extra storage, ideal for those weekends away.

This example has clearly been cherished and stored correctly from new. Only 2 owners, the first caring for this car for no less than 30 years.  These cars have finally been recognised for how good and usable they are, especially with the more sought after 3.6 engine, with the manual gearbox. Featuring all round, independent, coil sprung suspension, power assisted rack and pinion steering, disc brakes and its excellent handling and balance.

I have been lucky enough to drive many of these Jaguars. This example immediately stands out for its very smooth and tight drive. Suspension and brakes feel great, the gear change is smooth and precise, the engine very responsive. It might surprise you how well a good one of these drives.

Specification

PAS, Electric windows, Jaguar Computer, Original Stereo, Electric Aerial, Toolkit.

Bodywork / Wheels / Interior

This XJ-S is finished in Regent Grey. The paintwork has a lovely all over shine, no noticable dings or dents. This colour really suits this shape, it has aged much better than some other colours of the period and it looks fantastic on the car, complimented with lovely chrome trim.

The interior of this car benefits from a lovely Cream leather (Doeskin) interior, with lovely light wood trim. Again everywhere you look, this example is in lovely original condition. These pre facelift interior are in my opinion, the preferred option, complete with the original dials and chrome switches.

The engine bay and boot area are just as clean and original. The boot contains the original Targa roof storage bag and the rare to find toolkit.

Engine / Gearbox

The 3.6 fuel injected, straight six engine performs very well. It start and runs very smoothly, hot or cold. It provides plenty of power, feels the perfect match for the 5 speed manual gearbox.

History

This Jaguar comes with the original manuals, supplements, sales brochure, all keys. It also benefits from a folder of service receipts, old MOT’s etc. It still features the original front and rear number plates.

Looking through the last few years invoices, its been looked after by well recognised Jaguar specialists.

In 2015, with 91,000 miles, it was given to a specialist with the instruction to go through the car and do the work required. So this was done, £1700 bill and with a subsequent bill for £475 to attend to worn suspension bushes. Now with just 92,500, the car now drives very well indeed.

Summary

This lovely example has just been MOT’d, straight through with no advisories.

It would suit anyone looking for a usable classic for the summer, safe in the knowledge it should prove a good investment going forward.

This XJ-SC is ready to be enjoyed now.
