Introduction

Here we have an amazing  example of one of the best performance, luxury saloons money can buy, the Alpina B10 4.6 V8.

If you are not familiar with this model, this was Alpina’s answer to the M5.

This was not designed to be a direct competitor, as it was more designed for a super fast saloon rather than the more hard core M5. These cars left the factory as BMW 4.4 V8’s. They were then taken to the Alpina factory. The engine was modified by increasing the displacement to 4619 cc, new crankshaft, re profiled camshafts, lighter higher compression Mahle pistons and a re-programmed engine management, along with re profiled and ported cylinder heads.  This along with suspension / wheels / exhaust / gearbox upgrades resulted in a car with 340 BHP and amazing amounts of torque. Alpina claim 172 MPH if the mood takes you with a 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds, but road-tests indicate these figure might be on the conservative side.

These performance figures are impressive, but the main achievement in my eyes is the way they made all these improvements whilst still leaving a perfectly usable daily car, yet had stunning performance when needed. Other than a slightly deeper exhaust note on tickover, its hard to tell this Alpina from a normal BMW V8. But explore the performance and everything comes together and makes sense. Its staggering, the bespoke Alpina exhaust suddenly makes all the right noises, pops and bangs on the overrun, the instant performance from this large V8 is very addictive, the Switchtronic gearbox with paddle buttons on the steering wheel to change gear works extremely well, I think Alpina got the whole package just right !

Bodywork

This Individual model is finished in a vary desirable colour, with Special Order Carbon Schwartz Black Metallic paintwork

The bodywork and paintwork are excellent, it has the deepest all over shine. This dark metallic colour really suits the B10, this example comes with no rust, no noticeable dings or dents.

As with most Alpina’s, the paintwork seems to have just a little extra sparkle, it just looks fantastic.

Look closer and you will see that the original owner specified some very nice details on this car, including High Gloss Shoadowline trim, M5 mirrors (a £1400 option in 2002), Sun protection Glass on rear windows etc.

Obviously as this is a 2002 car, it benefits from full colour coding, Xenon front lights etc.

All these options look just right, this car looks fantastic.

Interior

The well picked options continue with the interior.

This example comes with the best quality, extended Nappa leather. Lovely quality Buffalo leather, not only on the seats but also dash top, steering column, door cards, centre console etc.

The sport seats are in excellent condition. Front and rear seats benefit from the Alpina logos.

The original overmats are in excellent shape, complete with their Alpina stripes. These mats protect the unmarked , deep pile carpet.

Look closer and you will see the stunning leather clad multifunction steering wheel, complete with Alpina stitching and arrows indicating the Switchtronic gear selectors.

Inside the boot, the original boot carpet is protected by a lovely full length Alpina striped carpet.

It even has blinds on the door windows, electric rear blind and Anthracite headlining.

This interior really feels special, they just don’t make them like this any more !

Options

The spec includes a rare Electric glass sunroof, Electric front seats with memory function, 3 stage heated seats, Electric steering wheel adjustment, Original BMW GSM phone, Rear electric blind, Factory gradually tinted glass, Rear privacy glass, Rear blinds,  Front and rear parking sensors, Sat nav , CD changer etc.

Obviously this car has the lovely 19 inch Alpina alloys, these are all in excellent, unmarked condition, including the spare.

Documentation

This example benefits from a full BMW main dealer service history.

It comes with all the manuals including the Alpina extra supplements, a fully stamped original service book, a folder full of Service receipts, MOT history, Original Order form.

Summary

This Alpina B10 is a fantastic example. I have had the pleasure of driving lots of these wonderful cars and I have to say this example drives as good as they come.

The engine and gearbox are super responsive, brakes are sharp, tight steering and the ride is completely smooth.

No matter how brave you feel, how fast you dare take this car, its remains completely smooth and perfectly planted.

If you are looking for a perfectly maintained example, with an superb spec, this car has to be seen.

It will come with a new MOT on sale !!
